Were You Born? Why Are You Here? What Is Your Destiny?
Does your life have purpose? Does it
have real meaning? Is life anything
more than a brief span on earth, with
nothing but eternity on either side of this
physical existence?
This is the question of the ages, a riddle
that has challenged human beings since
they came to be: Why am I here? Why do I
exist? Is there a purpose for my existence?
Thousands of years ago, the biblical
King David looked up into the night sky
and wrote down his thoughts regarding
man's relationship to his Creator:
"When I consider Your heavens,
the work of Your fingers, the
moon and the stars, which You
have ordained, what is man that
You are mindful of him, and the
son of man that You visit him?"
David wondered about the
purpose of man just as we do
today. He wondered why God is
so concerned with human beings
and their future and what role
we have in His plan. Every one of us was
created for a purpose, but few understand
what that great purpose is. Do you?
David perceived that no part of God's
physical creation even begins to compare
with His purpose for you and me! He continued
describing God's purpose for mankind:
"You have crowned him with glory
and honor. You have made him to have
dominion over the works of your hands."
Perhaps David had in mind God's earlier
proclamation through Moses that "the sun,
the moon, and the stars, all the host of
heaven . . . the Lord Your God has given to
all the peoples under the whole
heaven as a heritage."
Being crowned with glory and
honor—having dominion over
all God's works—being given the
sun, stars and heavenly bodies
as a heritage—what does it all
