Video Transcript

The last survivor of the sinking of the Titanic died yesterday. Ninety-seven year-old Millvina Dean was a baby in 1912 when the tragedy occurred. As the ship sank, she was wrapped in a sack and lowered to a lifeboat. She and her mother and her two-year-old brother survived. The ship didn't carry enough lifeboats for all the passengers, so her father, like most of the men onboard, died.

Her father had sold a pub in England and planned to open a tobacco shop in Kansas City, where his wife had relatives. So Millvina's family had set out from Southampton to start a new life in the United States.

The Titanic was the most luxurious and modern liner afloat. New technological advances, watertight compartments, made people to believe it was unsinkable. But it wasn't. Four days out of port, the Titanic hit an iceberg, filled with water in three hours and sank in the icy ocean southeast of Newfoundland.  Millvina ended up back in Southampton where she lived out a quiet life, until yesterday.

The sinking of the Titanic was a sudden, unexpected event that took the lives of 1,517 people and forever changed the lives of many more.

Did you know there is an even more important unexpected even to come. It will change your life and the life of every other human being in the world. What is that event? It's the return of Jesus Christ to earth. He told his followers many times that he would die, be resurrected and ascend to heaven, but also that he would return. He said His return would be preceded by earth-shaking events such as the world has never seen. And Jesus said it will all happen very unexpectedly for most people.

He said: "But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be" (Matthew 24:37-39 NKJ)

People will just be getting on with their lives, working, partying, planning for the future, and then the events foretold in the Bible will come crashing in. There will be a time of trouble and worldwide cataclysm, that will finally be followed by the establishment of the Kingdom of God and a wonderful time of world peace and joy.

The story of the Titanic teaches us that unexpected things can happen that can forever change our lives. And the biggest one the world will ever see, will be the return of Jesus Christ.
